VFIS and the IAFC Volunteer Combination Officer Section (VCOS) are pleased to announce the recipients of the VFIS-VCOS Illness and Injury Prevention Award and the VFIS-VCOS Recruitment and Retention Award. The awards were presented at the 2017 IAFC-VCOS Symposium in the Sun, on November 9 in Clearwater, Florida.
The VFIS-VCOS Illness and Injury Prevention Award was presented to Staunton Fire Protection District, Staunton, IL. This award recognizes success and excellence in developing and implementing an injury, illness or vehicle safety prevention program. Staunton Fire Protection District has a comprehensive safety program in place, much like a corporate safety program. There have been no injuries over the last 6 and a half years.
The VFIS-VCOS Recruitment and Retention Award was presented to Washington County Volunteer Fire Rescue Association, Maryland. The Recruitment and Retention Award recognizes success and excellence in the retention and recruitment of emergency service organization members. Washington County had a goal of recruiting 150 members, exceeding that goal by 48. In addition, their comprehensive program supported the cafeteria plan approach to retention while engaging new members across multiple age brackets.
VFIS and VCOS congratulate the 2017 recipients.
